Ingredients
- 2 sticks (1 cup) unsalted butter
- 1⁄2 cup powdered sugar
- 1/4 tsp kosher salt
- Any other flavoring
- 2 cups flour
Method
- With a stiff silicone spatula in a mixing bowl
- Cream the butter and sugar and flavoring together
- Add in flour
- Switch to your hand and combine until it comes together as a dough
- I flour my counter for insurance but it probably isn’t necessary
- Until there is no dough
- Roll it out with a piece of wax paper to the thickness you want
- Cut out shapes and land on a parchment-lined baking sheet
- Ball up scraps
- Bake at 350°F for 20–40 minutes, depending on if you want soft and fall apart or caramelized and hard
Notes
Good ideas for flavoring are: 1–2 tsp vanilla, 3–4 tsp loose leaf tea—ground in a mortar and pestle, 2–3 tsp matcha, rosemary, lavender, chocolate, kahlua, almond extract.
Grind 4 tsp of loose leaf earl grey tea in a mortar and pestle to make these Earl Grey Shortbreads.
I want to try adding 1 egg yolk and using almond flour.
